I grew up going to all sorts of bakeries with my parents and sister. I remember peeking through the glass case on my tippy toes, and loving every minute of it. Walking in to smell the flavors, choosing the colors, textures, and shapes and wondering what each will taste like. I was curious about the chefs skill and how they could take ingredients and make a pastry lumpy, smooth, flat, or puffed.
My sister is now a pastry chef, and it's also a part of me now, as an adult. My pleasant associations are why I love bakeries so much. Now, I like to take my son to different bakeries to have the same experience I did.
A few weeks ago, I went to a different local bakery (It wasn't Goodman Bakes) with my 5yo son, and it was our 2nd time there. Unfortunately, they didn't treat him well. He wasn't causing any havoc, and I'm pretty careful about him being respectful in a public place. They gave off a very tense vibe, and they didn't like him touching things. He wasn't running or making a mess. He was being a kid and he was curious about the feel of things. I get it, kids can be hard sometimes, I've worked in customer service and around kids. However, just being at this other local bakery, we felt unwelcome. I felt sad because bakeries are often bright and full of regulating smells and flavors that bring a sense of home. I didn't feel that there, both times I've taken my kid.
This week, I walked into Goodman Bakes, and it was the exact opposite experience! It was so pleasant that it led me to write this long story of a review! They immediately acknowledged my son as a person. They interacted with him and welcomed him with joy. I asked about all the flavored cakes, and they were so patient and kind.
My son did the same thing I did as a kid. He stood on his tippy toes, peeking into the glass, taking in all the smells and colors. He observed the shapes and was curious about all the different tastes. It was a whole new world to him. I could see his curiosity around the shape of a

This is a hidden treasure for sure. I found this gem about 2 months ago and now I can't stop visiting. They have unique items and are so flavorful! I have brought these goodies to friends and family and everyone loved them. I will continue to visit. The coconut creme cruffin is delicate but so satisfying. Chocolate puff party, blueberry pie, cinnamon rolls sweet husband and a blueberry lemon scone.

We got a breakfast sandwich with egg and sausage, plus two pastries—and the combination of everything was perfect. The sandwich was warm, flavorful, and satisfying, and the pastries were fresh and just sweet enough. We ate the pastries before I took a photo. Whoops. Will be back again soon.

Best legitimate pasty bakery in Rochester. The kouign-amann was a truly luxury- you could really taste the quality butter, the layers of pastry were perfect and gooey. I've had it once, and since returning, they're continually sold out which means if I want one, I need to get there when they open. I've tried a few other things and everything consistently tastes like real quality food. I wish they were open more, and I wish for some day a full cafe experience with indoor seating.

My friend recommended stopping into this bakery for breakfast and oh my goodness they were so right. The chocolate focaccia is stupendous!!! The potato knish was delightful. They offered me a sample of this cheesy bread loaf they had and it was amazing. I cannot recommend this spot enough, I wish I lived nearby!

Got a few different items to try. They tasted wonderful (not too sweet or bland), consistency was creamy, and texture was chewy and soft. Staff were so friendly and helpful in recommending items. It was clean and there was lively music playing. This place was awesome and I’ll definitely be back.
I suggest bringing in cash to tip. I used card and the kiosk didn’t ask me if I wanted to tip. I felt bad because I wanted to tip staff but didn’t have cash on me! Bring some cash if you can.

By far my favorite bakery in Rochester. The pastries are super fresh and there’s a nice variety that changes regularly (always with a few savory options). There have been new treats every time I’ve been in, so it’s great for sampling. The Kouign-amann is out of this world good, but we’re yet to have anything that wasn’t excellent!
